Movie Review: Tower Heist (2011)
Stiller plays Josh Kovacs, who for more than a decade has been the Manager of the most luxurious and most secure residence in New York City refered to as “The Tower”. Wall Street titan Arthur Shaw (Alan Alda) resides in the penthouse atop the tower and is under house arrest after stealing billions of dollars from his investors and attempting to flee. Hmmmmm.. Does that sound familiar?!? After Kovacs chooses Shaw to manage the employees pensions without their knowledge, he feels he is to blame for them losing everything. He hatches a plan with some of the other employees to steal back the money they lost after discovering that Shaw may have hidden some of the it in his penthouse. He enlists the help of a childhood friend and petty criminal, Slide (Eddie Murphy), to help them steal back the money. Being employees of the “Tower” they realise that they can get past all the security, FBI agents and Shaw without anyone noticing.
The all-star cast made this film great, and the newcomers were able to hold their own with the big names. Although this storyline has been played out several times in the past, the cast makes this one feel like a whole new story and is a home run.
While ‘Tower Heist’ is suspenseful and filled with action it is still very heavy on the comedy and is very entertaining. Eddie Murphy, after several very disappointing roles over the last several years, has taken on a role that is very reminiscent of his portrayal of Billy Ray Valentine in the 1983 hit ‘Trading Places’ . That is the Eddie Murphy we all loved and it was great to see him back!!
I highly recommend this one. Check it out and let me know what you think!
