Game Review: Karateka

Game Review: Karateka

Back in the days of the 8-bit Apple II there was a young man called Jordan Mechner. Rather than focus all of his efforts on obtaining a degree at Yale University, he instead harnessed all those youthful hormones into a love story known as Karateka Read On

Game Revew: Tiny Troopers

Game Revew: Tiny Troopers

Using miniature marines have never been as tedious as it is in Iceberg’s Interactive latest title known as Tiny Troopers. Originally, Tiny Troopers was made for the iOS and Mac, however, it was later moved to Steam on August 24, 2012, and it is a title that favors average gamers who want entertainment for an hour or so without indulging too much time into mechanics and all that other nonsense. Tiny Troopers starts out without a background story, and no other sense of detail as to who the player is, or why the player is fighting. It is strictly implied that... Read On

Game Review: Junk Jack

Game Review: Junk Jack

In this review I will be discussing Junk Jack, I will tell you how the game looks and feels in the palm of your hand, I will also try my hardest to differentiate the game from the endless sea of Minecraft-esque titles. Everything Junk Jack has to offer will be laid bare in this review and will hopefully make up your mind on whether to purchase this little slice of the highly sought after mining niche. Junk Jack looks to be set as a fairly ambitious title, the game offers a beautiful 2D side-scrolling atmosphere, The music is extremely well incorporated and with the visuals... Read On

Game Review: The Walking Dead Episode 1

Game Review: The Walking Dead Episode 1

There are a ton of zombies games out there on the market so it came as no surprise that following the success of the incredibly awesome Walking Dead tv series that a came based on the franchise would inevitably make its way onto the scene. And sure enough Telltale Games, the folks behind the Back to the Future games have done just that. And while the game falls short in some aspects, overall it does a great job of capturing what makes The Walking Dead franchise awesome. Based on the comic book series The Walking Dead, Episode 1 takes... Read On

Game Review: The Bluecoats – North Vs. South

Game Review: The Bluecoats – North Vs. South

Depending on how long you’ve been gaming, you might or might not have heard of a little turn-based strategy gem called North vs. South, a great game that barely got the attention it deserved when it came out decades ago to now-ancient computers. The game has been re-released upon the world, and remade as The Bluecoats – North vs. South (though for convenience, it’ll just be referred to as NvS). NvS is a remake for PC, iOS that successfully blends turn-based strategy, arcade action and third-person cover-based shooting. Wait, what? This sounds impossible- but NvS pulls it off with finesse. Starting with gameplay, you spend... Read On

Game Review: Fieldrunners

Game Review: Fieldrunners

Tower defense is an interesting genre- hone that seems to thrive on just about every platform, for some reason. Why do we love tower defense? Is it the inherent simplicity of the games in this genre that draw us like flies to honey? Perhaps it’s the urge to protect something that lies dormant in all our hearts. Whatever the case is, Fieldrunners does a good job at bringing it out. I think Fieldrunners is one of the simplest tower defense games I’ve played thus far- it’s pretty hands-off. How can I say that? I’m playing it right now as I’m writing... Read On

Game Review: Cthulhu Saves the World

Game Review: Cthulhu Saves the World

Do you remember the days of yore? Popping a cartridge into a console and… Popping it out to blow the contacts clean? But after that, I’m sure you have some wonderful sunlit memory of hearing wonderful 8-bit music fill your ears, listening as you read tales of knights and heroes who selflessly saved the world in all their blocky, pixelated glory… Cthulhu Saves the World isn’t one of these games. Rather, it pokes good fun at these games all while honoring them and their random battles, square little villages full of square little people, and of course by making... Read On

Game Review: Jumping Electron

Game Review: Jumping Electron

Do you enjoy simple games with occasionally cruel difficulty? If so, you’re going to want to check out this Android game- Jumping Electron. How does it play? Quite simply, you’re an electron, and your goal is a lightbulb. Stretched out before you is a long wooden plane covered in pitfalls, obstacles, and the occasional power-up. Navigation is as simple as tilting your device and tapping your screen to jump. Here’s a quick description ripped from the game’s press release: Aesthetically, I’m reminded of The Incredible Machine for some reason, although the game really looks quite different. Maybe the lightbulb at... Read On

Game Review: Gunman Clive

Game Review: Gunman Clive

I miss old school platformers. Not because I grew up with them though I’d be lying if nostalgia didn’t play a factor, but I love old school platformers because they were simple, fun and of course challenging as hell. Back in the day you really had to hone your gaming skills to damn near perfection to make it through quite a few games back in the day. And when that moment finally came, when you beat the last and final level, you felt like a champion. It’s the closest we gamers come to feeling like we just won a... Read On

Game Review: Game Dev Story

Game Review: Game Dev Story

How would you feel if I told you that I found a fun game that contained RPG, RTS, and business management elements? Personally, I’d be excited until I heard the last element. Business management mixed with role-playing? It sounds kind of nausea-inducing. As fate would have it, however, it actually works quite well in Game Dev Story, a game for iOS and Android manages to take what could be an awkward mix of elements and create a brilliant strategy game that’s quite easy to pick up (and put down for a moment). http://youtu.be/DsMMnnOp7RU I got to play the game...
