PS4 Pro Coming November 2016, $399
If you’ve been in the market for a new game console, you might want to hold off on buying one until November when Sony’s latest iteration of the Playstation 4, the PS4 Pro, is launched- during a press conference today, Sony announced the device along with its price: November 10, and $399. Sony also announced a release date and price for the PS4 Slim, which is a smaller version of the PS4 with a bit of a redesign- that’s coming out on September 15 for $299.
What sets the Playstation 4 Pro apart is that it boasts support for gaming in 4K- essentially, if you have a 4K display and would like to play games in a massive resolution, the PS4 Pro will allow you to do so. What’s more, it ships with a 1 TB HDD and looks like two PS4s glued together.
This machine’s not really a paradigm-shifter in the world of gaming- we’ve been seeing new versions of game consoles for almost as long as there have been consoles- however, the PS4 Pro does seem to represent another sort of sea change in the world of consoles, and that is there being tiers of consoles that offer somewhat different experiences. Much like Microsoft’s Xbox One S, it’s not a brand new console because it’ll still run PS4 games, and it won’t (or at least, shouldn’t) have exclusive titles. Instead, it’ll offer a higher-fidelity experience for games released on the platform.
