Phil Fish Claims to Have Had Plans for “First Person Voxel Sandbox” Before Minecraft Became Popular
The brilliant and occasionally controversial developer of FEZ, Phil Fish, claims to have had plans to create a first person voxel sandbox game around the time he was working on FEZ.
as soon as we started fez, i wanted the follow up to be a first person voxel sandbox set in that universe. and then minecraft happened.

This came out as he was tweeting about Cube World, a new voxel-based open world adventure that’s rather like Minecraft, but with a heavier focus on combat, with more RPG elements. He hasn’t said much else about his plans for an open-world themed FEZ game, though I’m kind of curious as to what that sort of thing would be like- it would certainly be adorable, and I’m curious as to what his focus would’ve been with it. FEZ has a reputation for having some incredibly difficult puzzles- would he have somehow transferred them to his open-world game? Then again, maybe he was joking- it’s hard to tell with Fish- he probably was since he hasn’t presented any proof of this mysterious sandbox game. I can’t say if he was serious or not- what do you think? Sound off below.
