Could We Be Getting a Batman/Superman Movie?
Batman and Superman are two of the biggest names in comic book history. Out of all the comic book heroes, these two have had the most media adaptations in the history of comics. I don’t think there is a person alive who doesn’t know who Batman and Superman are.
Over time these two have paired up on many occasions to save the world. These teams up are favored among comic book fans because despite the many differences between the two, they remain steadfast friends, though at times they have come to blows. Starting next month you can even see them in action together again as DC releases their new book, Batman/Superman.
So with as many films as these two characters have had we have never been closer to getting a film featuring the pair teaming up on the big screen. And with Warners Bros’ Man of Steel coming out in just a few weeks, there is a lot of speculation that this may be the beginning of the studio’s attempt at establishing a DC cinematic universe much like Marvel has done which would inevitably lead to a Justice League film. WB has said as much that the new Superman film will indeed hint at a much larger universe.
Well to fan the flames of making this a reality, SFX recently interviewed Man of Steel’s Henry Cavill and he has stated that, like many of us, he would love to see a Batman/Superman film happen.
“I think it would be really interesting with the age-old Batman/Superman conflict because they are two different sides of the same coin and their methods are entirely different. And I think it would actually make for an interesting story as to why, first of all, they were going head to head and how. I think that would make a great story.”
Everyone working on Man of Steel has been very hush on just how the film plans on hinting at the DC Universe and if it will indeed be the beginning of the DC Cinematic Universe. Even Cavill himself is unsure.
“Who knows. I’m sure there’s all sorts of ideas being thrown around at Warner Bros right now.”
Back in 2004 a Batman vs Superman film was announced, but ultimately that fell to pieces and we ended up with the piece of garbage that was Superman Returns, but I’m very hopeful that Man of Steel will finally be the Superman film we’ve been waiting for. And of course who wouldn’t want to see a team up of this to titans on the big screen?
Man of Steel comes out in theaters June 14th.
