Piranha 3DD

Movie Review: Piranha 3DD

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: if you are not one with the wonderfully wacky world of the “Piranha” franchise, you are most likely a fuddy duddy… and nobody likes a fuddy duddy. “P3DD” is more a parody of the remake and its excesses… namely boobs and blood (of which there is plenty of both on display here). It’s 80 minutes of pure silliness crammed full of fantastic cameos (some carryovers from the first) and fish bursting out of places they have no right to be in the first place. If it wasn’t safe to call director John... Read On

Mother's Day

Movie Capsule Review: Mother’s Day (2010)

From the man who gave us “Saw II” thru “IV” and “Repo! The Genetic Opera”: Darren Lynn Bousman’s kinda-sorta remake of the 1980 “Mother’s Day” (the parallels between the two end with them both containing super sadistic mothers) has finally arrived on DVD and Blu in the U.S. courtesy of Anchor Bay. It was completed in 2010. God knows what its been doing dilly-dallying since then. And just in time for the Hallmark holiday the movie owes its name  to boot! Released practically everywhere else on the planet prior, I saw the film a few months back courtesy of a Region 2... Read On

Short Movie Review: Briefcase (2012)

Short Movie Review: Briefcase (2012)

Nate Golon scored big with his short ‘Briefcase’!  Being less than six minutes long and packing suspense and drama into every last second of the film shows how talented this young man is.  After watching this short you get the feeling of just having watched a full length feature film and wondering how the entire film could fit into such a short period.  The plot and character development starts immediately and follows right through until the end, a difficult task to pull off when making a short film.             The short tells the story of  a man named Carter (Golon) putting air in his tires... Movie Review: The Woman in Black (2012)

The movie opens with fuzzy flashes of a couple getting married and then a woman being pregnant next thing you know Arthur Kipps (Daniel Radcliffe) is standing in front of a mirror obviously upset. In the next scene it turns out that Mr. Kipps has a young boy named Joseph (Misha Handley), Mr. Kipps’ wife passed away during child-birth. Arthur is a lawyer during the 19th century clearly still mourning the death of his wife is giving an assignment from work to go into a small town and finalize some papers left behind at a very old house after the former resident dies.... Movie Review: Killers (2010)

Movie Review: Killers (2010)

You won’t really know what to expect during the first few minutes of this movie.  It’s kind of hard to tell if it’s going to be romantic, funny, or full of action. But it later turns into all of the above. It starts when Jennifer  “Jen” Kornfeldt  (Katherine Heigl) goes on a vacation with her parents to help her get over a recent breakup that has her completely up in the air about where her life is going.  However vacation doesn’t seem to be  helping much due to her extremely overprotective and rich father Mr. Kornfeldt (Tom Selleck) who... Movie Review: Gone in 60 Seconds (2000)

Movie Review: Gone in 60 Seconds (2000)

Few people have seen the original Gone in 60 Seconds (1974), but if you happen to be one of them  and are expecting a remake, forget it.  The only things shared between the two films are the name, the fact that they are both about car thieves, and a Mustang named Eleanor. Memphis Raines (Nicholas Cage) is the best car thief in Long Beach, but he’s retired.  That is until he’s called back into the game to save the life of his younger brother Kip Raines (Giovanni Ribisi) who is in trouble with the new local criminal Mirror Man... Movie Review: ‘Drive’ (2011)

Now this movie may not be exactly what you expect from the trailers, it’s not a driving filled action film with cars racing in the streets and flipping over in balls of flames! Its more the dark story of a skilled driver and how his life changes when he falls in love. Director Nicolas Refn is well-known for his love of blood and gore in his movies and when the plot finally picks up after its VERY slow start, Refn gets a lot of chances to use this and does! Gosling stars as “The Kid” in this one as... Read On
