Game Review: Mars: War Logs

Game Review: Mars: War Logs

Indie games are constantly criticized and compared to higher budget titles mercilessly. Mars: War Logs is the best example of this sort of scenario. It does an amazing job in demonstrating that it has the potential to do something great-even against titles with bigger budgets. War Logs immerses players as Roy Temperance; a soldier who was captured and sent to a POW (prisoner of war) camp during the war between two large water companies on Mars known as Abundance and Aurora. Shortly after, another soldier known as Innocence arrives, having been captured and brutalized by his fellow inmates, Roy believes that it is the... Read On

Game Review: Dust: An Elysian Tail

Game Review: Dust: An Elysian Tail

You know, I think it’s dangerous to review a game when you’re excited about it. I mean, if I’m really pumped for something that’s been hyped up, and I play it, am I really enjoying it? Am I- is my mind- exaggerating? I always worry about that, and I was really concerned that all my excitement over Dust: An Elysian Tail would get in my way. You see, I’ve been waiting a long time for this game- and I’m happy to say that it was worth the wait. Dust is a pretty unique ARPG with an interesting storyline, great... Read On

Game Review: Cthulhu Saves the World

Game Review: Cthulhu Saves the World

Do you remember the days of yore? Popping a cartridge into a console and… Popping it out to blow the contacts clean? But after that, I’m sure you have some wonderful sunlit memory of hearing wonderful 8-bit music fill your ears, listening as you read tales of knights and heroes who selflessly saved the world in all their blocky, pixelated glory… Cthulhu Saves the World isn’t one of these games. Rather, it pokes good fun at these games all while honoring them and their random battles, square little villages full of square little people, and of course by making... Read On

Game Review: Dark Scavenger

Game Review: Dark Scavenger

It’s very easy to judge a book (or game) by its cover. I nearly ignored a fun RPG for PC because, quite frankly, I didn’t particularly care for its appearance- it looked cheap, and I assumed it wouldn’t at all be a good game. I’m grateful that I was wrong and decided to play the game anyway, because the game’s developers have done a splendid job with the game from a creative standpoint, rather than from a technical one. First off, what exactly is Dark Scavenger? Here’s some information ripped directly from the game’s website: Dark Scavenger is an... Read On

Game Review: To The Moon

Game Review: To The Moon

You know, sometimes I think I’m in the wrong business. If you know me, there’s the chance you may know that I don’t like to slam people’s work. This really makes being a critic difficult at times. To The Moon, by Freebird games, has had a lot of work put into it, and I really don’t want to slam it, but I’m afraid that I have little choice but to slam it… With Praise. …I’m sorry. I really shouldn’t be so melodramatic whilst attempting to honestly and objectively review a game. The trouble is, the game is so good... Read On

Game Review: Legend of Grimrock

Game Review: Legend of Grimrock

Legend of Grimrock is a first person role-playing dungeon crawler developed, and published by Almost Human. The game was released April 11, 2012, for PC and Mac. Grimrock is simply remarkable. Not only does it look enticing, but the game fully gives you an experience that goes down to the core of why RPGs are amazing, and goes back to games such as Elder Scrolls 2: Daggerfall, or Eye of the Beholder. Legend of Grimrock stars 4 criminals who are sentenced to death in order to absolve their sins. You then begin the game with either making your own... Read On

Game Review: Denizen’s Den

Game Review: Denizen’s Den

Roguelike RPG… It’s been a long time since we’ve met. How are things? Good, I hope. I see that very little’s really changed, eh? That’s quite alright, I love you just the way you are. As you may have surmised, Denizen’s Den is a roguelike RPG on the XBLIG. While it doesn’t feature random characters for graphics, it does feature randomly generated levels and is worth a few good hours of dungeon crawling fun. As I mentioned before, it doesn’t feature ASCII characters for graphics, but instead uses very simple, rather NES-like graphics, though they do look a bit…... Read On
