WTF Moment: BioShock

It’s time for another edition of WTF Moments. Now remember these are crazy moments that literally had gamers shouting WTF at their TVs so if you don’t want to ruin anything for yourself I warn you again there are HUGE spoilers ahead. You’ve been warned. It’s been a while since I’ve posted one of these and seeing as how BioShock Infinite came out recently I figured what better game to go back to than the original BioShock. This game was fantastic from beginning to end. We were taken to a new world that was shrouded in mystery, wrapped in a puzzle, boxed in... Read On

Game News: Interview with Malik Boukhira, Developer of Tiny Brains

Game News: Interview with Malik Boukhira, Developer of Tiny Brains

One of my favorite games of PAX East 2013 was Tiny Brains, an insanely fun co-op action puzzle platformer with plenty of personality and challenging, innovative gameplay. I had the chance to have a chat with Malik Boukhira, one of the developers at Spearhead Games, and we talked about Tiny Brains, what games what influenced it, and what it’s like developing games independently. Mr. Boukhira and the rest of the Spearhead staff formerly worked for much larger studios, such as Ubisoft, and when they got together and formed Spearhead, the experience was completely different than what they were used to. Game News: Feet-on with the Stinky at PAX East 2013

To be honest, I wasn’t sure what to expect when I stumbled across the Stinky Footboard (or what to make of the name). As it turns out, I was in for a pleasant surprise. The Stinky is a foot-based controller for your PC that allows you to map any four keys to four directions; you can set all four arrow keys, for example, to their respective positions on the footboard. Suppose you’re into DotA (or any other MOBA) and would like to save your hands a little trip across the keyboard to the arrow keys- the Stinky could come in... Read On

Game News: Phantom Pain Officially Announced as Metal Gear Solid 5

Game News: Phantom Pain Officially Announced as Metal Gear Solid 5

During the VGAs, gamers were shown an interesting trailer that featured someone who resembled Big Boss from the Metal Gear franchise. The title to the game was Phantom Pain. Now if you couldn’t see that this was clearly the next entry in the franchise then you shouldn’t call yourself a gamer. Well during the GDC Kojima Productions has made it official, the next game in the franchise is Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain. The game will once again focus on Big Boss as he deals with yet another convoluted plot to destroy the world by some sinister... Read On

Game News: Pandora’s Tower

Game News: Pandora’s Tower

If you honestly believed that the Wii was truly going to go out without a boom, then you are clearly mistaken. Besides the two amazing RPG titles that already came out –Xenoblade Chronicles and The Last Story -another title known as Pandora’s Tower is also in the running to come out alongside those two in the United States thanks to “Operation Rainfall”, or in short “Oprainfall”. In short, this operation was a fan campaign in order to persuade Nintendo of America to localize those three titles in the US. Just like the other two titles listed before, Pandora’s Tower... Game News: Steampunk Undersea Puzzling? You Must See Fathom!

Game News: Steampunk Undersea Puzzling? You Must See Fathom!

Another sickstarter project? That was the first thing I thought when I looked at Fathom- it seems that Kickstarter might as well open up its own little version of Steam for all the games that come through there. That said, upon further examination I realized that Fathom was a lot more awesome than I was giving it credit for. Disregarding my disdain for the glut of games seeking crowdfunding (not that there’s anything wrong with it, come to think of it), Fathom looks absolutely brilliant. The game centers on Daniel, a well-to-do Londoner driven to build a bathysphere and explore the Bermuda Triangle after a... Read On

Game News: Google Turns Websites into Marble Madness

Game News: Google Turns Websites into Marble Madness

I’m sure many of you gamers have played Marble Madness or some variation of it. I’m sure some of the fine folks over at Google have as well since they didn’t seem content with the game itself. They took it one step further: by allowing you to play on the internet, literally. Google have developed their own marble maze game which uses actual websites as levels. And if that wasn’t enough, you can use either you Android or iOS to play the game. I swear I’m not making this up. I’ve tried the game out myself and it is... Read On

Game Preview: Hands On with Tiny Brains at PAX East 2013

Game Preview: Hands On with Tiny Brains at PAX East 2013

I got to play a great many games during this PAX East- one of them was Tiny Brains, and it was a high point of the experience. The game’s a multiplayer co-op puzzler with plenty of personality and puzzles that seem to have a perfect difficulty curve. The story, in short, is that you’re a tiny lab animal who has been experimented on by a mad scientist who subjects you and three friends to an assortment of intelligence tests. Each of you has a different ability- one can push while one can pull, another can teleport and the last... Read On

Game News: Dust: An Elysian Tail Coming to Steam!

I had the pleasure of hearing this news while at PAX East- Dust: An Elysian Tail will be released on Windows via Steam. Mr. Dodrill doesn’t have a specific date quite yet, but the excellent action RPG is going to be available to all those on PC who haven’t had the pleasure of playing on the Xbox now have the opportunity to enjoy Dust in all its beauty- perhaps with a little something extra? Maybe a neat developer’s commentary will be added- the Dust panel at PAX East 2013 featured a modified version of the game that included bits of information on... Read On

Game Preview: Drunken Robot Pornography

Game Preview: Drunken Robot Pornography

Drunken Robot Pornography is probably the oddest name of any video game title since the Super Nintendo era, and in all honesty the title doesn’t matter in the long run- even though being it might be a huge turnoff- since the game overall has the feel that it provides, which is to give the player a crazy, fun experience, and in all honesty it does do exactly that. The alpha version of DRP (Drunken Robot Pornography) offers the player a chance to first of all experience the campaign mode of DRP, and an overall chance to build their own... Read On

Game News: PAX East is Coming- Here’s What We’re Looking Forward To

The Penny Arcade Expo grows near; the expo is a gaming festival and we’ll be there! There’s going to be plenty of awesome games on display, here’s a few that caught our attention. Boot Hill Heroes To be honest, I don’t think there are enough spaghetti-western video games. Sure, Red Dead Redemption came out a few years ago, but what have we seen? Very, very little of the west. Say hello to Boot Hill Heroes. http://youtu.be/95btKyH-6B4 After an alleged attack by the Chepakwik Indians, the people of Bronco County are on the brink of war.  Only a farm boy who knows... Game News: The Banner Saga: Factions Comes to Steam- First Impressions

Remember hearing about a certain (beautiful) game on Kickstarter known as The Banner Saga? The game certainly looked promising and sold itself on good art and built anticipation for a serious story set in a low-fantasy Viking-inspired world. That game’s not out quite yet, but what is out is a neat little digital board game: The Banner Saga: Factions. Factions is a multiplayer turn-based strategy game that puts you in control of your own clan of warriors that grow stronger as they fight in more battles. Having played it, I have to say that I’m impressed: the art is absolutely gorgeous. Gameplay is good and... Read On

Game News: This Uncharted Clone Looks Like it’s Worth a Peek

Game News: This Uncharted Clone Looks Like it’s Worth a Peek

It’s not too often that I see games that very brazenly copy other games. Typically, I don’t have very good things to say about them, but I’m honestly impressed by Unearthed: Trail of Ibn Battuta. Why? Because it looks like some serious effort went into making it. Somebody put heart and soul into recreating Nathan Drake and naming him something different, somebody worked hard at creating a villain I don’t care about and somebody put some real effort into the script to recreate Nathan Drake’s sense of humor. Just look at the trailer below. Right around 1:59 you can see where the... Read On
