Meet the first Microsoft exclusive of the next gen

Meet the first Microsoft exclusive of the next gen

Respawn, formerly known for the Call of Duty franchise (poor sods), has announced the first Microsoft exclusive game of the next generation. I say “Microsoft” instead of “Xbox One” (or, more humorously, the Xbone) because the announcement also seems to include Xbox 360 and PC. It’s a first-person shooter where you pilot mechs. Same old, same old. What makes this game a technical marvel is that it claims to use the server and cloud technology announced at the Xbone’s reveal. It uses it not just for multiplayer as expected, but also for physics calculations and even artificial intelligence-based computation.... Read On

Wolfenstein: The New Order shows Nazis that won

Wolfenstein: The New Order shows Nazis that won

Here’s a take of history that I found interesting ever since I saw The Producers, a movie where producers (who would’ve thought?) try to put on a terrible play about Hitler winning the war in order to keep the investment money and escape to South America. Immediately after watching this trailer, all I could think of was the moment during his song where the director changed the ending of the play to make the Nazis win because their loss was too depressing: “Wait, there’s more! THEY WIN THE WAR!” It’s just a take I found interesting and might be pretty... Read On

Third Street Saints are Back..?

Third Street Saints are Back..?

Deep Silver, the new publisher for the Saints Row franchise since the fall of THQ, has released numerous trailers for the upcoming Saints Row IV, hitting Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and Windows on August 22, 2013. I played the second game of the series first because of a friend. I ended up beating it in just a few days. The series had me hooked. It was everything Grand Theft Auto IV wasn’t. It featured a different kind of protagonist: instead of a depressing foreign gentleman, it featured a psychotic killer who had an almost Walter White quality about him/her. You began... Read On

Inside Florida Supercon: Video Game Exhibits

Inside Florida Supercon: Video Game Exhibits

Florida Supercon, or FSC, is a four-day festival dedicated to the people who love the best things the nerd world has to offer; they’ll be celebrating comics, cartoons, anime, video games, fantasy, sci-fi, and every thing else that makes us slobber on our Spider-Man t-shirts. A huge expansion has been made to FSC’s efforts to appeal to gamers. Running all four days of the convention will be a “video game ballroom.” Contrary to my initial perception, it isn’t a ball hosted by Link and Zelda, but a ballroom in the adjacent Doubletree Hotel loaded with tournaments and other goodies... Lionhead announces Fable Anniversary for Xbox 360

After a series with a record of disappointment thanks to Peter Molyneux, the Fable series is reminding what used to be its fan base where it all began. This remake, coinciding with Nintendo’s Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker remake, will also feature HD visuals, along with other visual enhancements. They’re also promising reduced loading times, which, after having played and enjoyed the first game, is something I can get behind. As an aside, we already saw Nintendo abuse the nostalgia factor with Super Mario Brothers, Donkey Kong Country, and even the Kirby franchise. Let’s hope the HD remake trend doesn’t catch on as another... Read On

Fallout 4 targeted to be an Xbox One Exclusive?

Fallout 4 targeted to be an Xbox One Exclusive?

Fallout 4 has been a pending nuclear weapon waiting to detonate following the groundbreaking prequel which interjected players into a baron wasteland that richly provided hours of entertainment. It became little surprise that the third instalment (a multiplatform release) earned a “megaton” in praise and recognised as “Game of the Year”. Bethesda has built a solid reputation with RPG fans and has continued to maintain the strong bond. The upcoming consoles to be thrown into the market this fall are beginning a struggle that has been emphasised recently based on Fallout 4s promise. Microsoft has attempted to strike a... Read On

Game News: Two Awesome Bundles!

Game News: Two Awesome Bundles!

If you don’t know what any of the different charity bundles are that are offered by sites such as Indie Royale, or Humble Bundle.com, then you are missing out on very large opportunities. Basically, how these bundles work are, you pay however much you want, depending on what they the site thinks is the average, or some bundles just have you pay whatever you want, and then from there, you decide if the money should go to charity, or to the developers, or the site itself. This is normally a great opportunity to not only buy a pack of... Read On

Game News : Humble Bundle Special Week Alan Wake Bundle

If you don’t know what the Humble Bundle is, or any of the other charity bundles that occur, then you are missing out on tremendous opportunities. To be frank,  Humble Bundle is a bundle of video games that are offered by a few developers, along with a site known as humblebundle.com, and they offer daily bundles that not only offer a lot of great video games in one package, but offer them at a lower price. In an essence, you can basically allocate where the money you use to purchase these goods go; meaning if you want pay six... Read On

Microsoft confirms first draft of used game system

Microsoft confirms first draft of used game system

Microsoft recently revealed a used game system for the Xbox One, though it may not be the final version of it. At present, you take a used game to the shop. The shop pays you a percentage of what they’ll sell the game for. The shop then gets 100% of the cash that used game sells for. With the Xbox One, you buy a game, put the disc in one time, enter a code, and the game saves fully to the 500 GB hard drive. No one else can use that disc. To trade a game into a shop... Read On

Interview with Guillame Boucher-Vidal, Creator of GoD Factory: Wingmen

Interview with Guillame Boucher-Vidal, Creator of GoD Factory: Wingmen

During PAX East 2013, there was a game that caught my attention- it looked like an ordinary space combat sim; it turned out to be much more than that. GoD Factory: Wingmen is a MOBA in which you design a ship and team up with three other people to take down the enemy team’s carrier (while taking care to protect yours). If you’re familiar with the likes of DotA or League of Legends, you’ll have an idea of what gameplay is like, to a certain degree. That said, the game takes place in space, and instead of using good... Read On

Microsoft meets Orwell and EA

Microsoft meets Orwell and EA

We’re all, to some degree, familiar with George Orwell’s nightmarish novel, Nineteen Eighty-Four. It’s about civilization’s plight against Big Brother, a fascist dictator who surveils the populace through everything, even their televisions. The way it seems, the Xbox One is on its way to making that possible. The Xbox One requires the packed in Kinect 2 to work. The Kinect 2 is much more powerful and accurate than its predecessor. It has the ability to recognize your voice and is powerful enough to detect your heartbeat and surroundings, even in absolute darkness. An internet connection is also required, along with... Read On

Assault Android Cactus Preview

Assault Android Cactus Preview

From Brisbane Australia the developer Witch Bean introduces Assault Android Cactus which is a top-down arcade shooter up title that’s currently on Steam Greenlight rallying up support for launch this summer on Mac, PC and Linux. I was generously offered the opportunity to preview this game to spread the word on what to expect out of this title. The story behind the game surrounds the character “Cactus”, an enthusiastic yet inexperienced law enforcing android that investigates a seemingly stranded space freighter. Cactus soon discovers malfunctioning robots are aboard and recruits... Read On

Xbox One Reveal Highlights

Xbox One Reveal Highlights

Today, Microsoft unveiled the next-generation Xbox, the Xbox One. What we saw the most use of is the packed-in, completely redesigned Kinect. The Kinect evolved from being a gimmick to help compete with Nintendo to a mode of input that is just as important as the controller itself. Xbox One turns on through the Kinect with the sound of your voice. The menu has also completely evolved to integrate these voice commands. You can operate apps with your voice, open your game, and even navigate to live television. A picture-in-picture-type feature, called “Snap Mode”, allows you to, say, Skype... Read On

Ubisoft to stand by Wii U

Ubisoft to stand by Wii U

The Wii U has faced heavy fire from critics and publishers alike. It was recently revealed that EA no longer had Wii U games in development, despite heavy endorsement of the console at E3 2011, and is doing anything it can to put distance between the seemingly-doomed console and themselves. However, a beacon of light has shined on the Wii U in the form of Ubisoft. The game behemoth stated that they understand that “it takes some time to grow an established base” and has a nice stable of games coming for the Wii U in the near future,... Read On

Sonic Lives On?

Sonic Lives On?

Sega’s greatest gift: Sonic. He’s been a household name in gaming for decades, but that’s begun to slow down in recent years. A May Nintendo Direct broadcast revealed that Nintendo and Sega are teaming up for yet another entry into the Sonic saga, this one being exclusive to the Wii U and 3DS. This partnership is worldwide and will probably persist until Sonic ceases to fill Nintendo’s pockets. The new game is titled Sonic Lost World. It’s well -known that one of the first video game industry wars was between Nintendo and Sega, with Sega losing out financially and not... Read On

Wii U to be supported by Cry Engine 3

The Wii U has been heavily pelted with doubt since the hardware was released November last year. A subject that has brought contraversial views that not only predict the systems future but all upcoming home entertainment consoles. EA recently stated that they would not be providing games for the Wii U format based on performance tests with their Frostbite 3 engine and the restrictions that go along with contributing to the Nintendo game library. Precursor games have emerged into the light with comments hailing the Wii Us performance in handling the Cry Engine 3. Nintendo’s next generation machine has... Read On

Next month High Moon Studios & Activision are going unleash a contagious personality onto the masses that will take the full video game spotlight. Deadpool aka Wade Wilson….aka “The Merc with a Mouth” is going to warp plenty of minds when Playstation 3, PC and Xbox 360 gamers get dragged into his demented world through the fourth wall. As a character Deadpool has to be the craziest son of a gun ever created in the Marvel Universe and most likely in comic book history altogether. Nothing quite spells about wacky than a mutant that can regenerate health, listens to... Read On

Game News: Is There Room for the Shield? Nvidia Needs to Learn from the Vita.

Not too long ago, I was at PAX East 2013 enjoying the sights, sounds and occasionally smells when I came across a pretty big booth that belonged to Nvidia in the middle of the show floor. There was swag galore being handed out- gigantic pins, bags, t-shirts- it was clear that Nvidia spared no expense to promote their latest product, the Shield. I got to try the handheld out, and I have to say that I was pretty impressed- it felt good to handle and the games showed off both looked nice from a visual standpoint (graphically better than... Criminal Macabre: No Peace for Dead Men is one of the most entertaining comics I have ever read! Period. This new collection from Darkhorse features on the “Detective,” for hire Cal, and his misadventures throughout the world of the paranormal, magical, etc. The characters throughout all of the stories in this collection are amazing! Even if the character is around only for a single panel you can tell each and every character was given their own distinct voice and personality – With one scene you already know which characters you’re rooting for and which ones you want to see... Game Preview: Anomaly 2

Game Preview: Anomaly 2

When Anomaly: Warzone Earth was released back during the beginning of 2012, the title received great praise for everything it did correctly, and the content it brought gamers was unparallelled to most of the other titles that were competing in the same market. Anomaly not only gave gamers eye candy with very vivd and colorful graphics- even for the consoles it was released on- but complemented it’s visuals with an amazing soundtrack, meaty gameplay, and even a story that wasn’t dull enough to get gamers to quit. In addition to that is how well made the code of the game itself was-... Read On

Time to Get Excited For Free Comic Book Day!

The first Saturday of every May is an important day for many comic book enthusiasts because in case the headline wasn’t obvious, it is Free Comic Book Day. That’s right, on one day every year, comic publishers and retailers participate in an event where free comics are released for both comic book lovers and people who have yet to even pick up a comic (shame on you). This year it also happens to coincide with International Star Wars Day so it is indeed a big day for geeks everywhere. And if that wasn’t enough Marvel’s Iron Man 3 just... Read On
