Is Greenlight Running Out of Steam?

Is Greenlight Running Out of Steam?

I saw it happening again. Another indie, fed up with being ignored by the masses, put his game up to download for free via the magic of Bittorent in hopes that somebody would pay it attention. Frankly, I can’t blame him, though I hope his is the last I see for a while. It’s not as though he hasn’t done anything to put his game out there- he has an active Twitter page and has obviously put lots of work into promoting his game. In spite of this, however, I hadn’t heard of Ciro Continisio’s game, UFHO2, or his... Read On

If you’re reading this on or after April 14, you’ll still want to check these games out.The trouble with PAX East is that it’s gigantic. It’s possible to skip the panels, the concerts, the events, spending all your time on the show floor checking out booths and still not see everything. Since your time is limited, I present with no further ceremony five great... Read On

Tomb Raider Fan Film is Amazing!

Tomb Raider Fan Film is Amazing!

Tomb Raider was one of the best games I’ve played this year. It did such a fantastic job of reintroducing gamers and fans to Lara Croft. I’m a huge fan of the redesign and can’t wait for the inevitable sequel. And it appears I’m not the only one who loved it as well. Fan films are aplenty and some are truly amazing showcases. This one right here is amazing and I guarantee your jaw will drop. This ladies and gentlemen is how you do a Lara Croft film. Read On

Three Things Other Games Can Learn from Game Dev Tycoon

Three Things Other Games Can Learn from Game Dev Tycoon

NOTE: The following contains mild spoilers for Game Dev Tycoon When I first caught wind of Game Dev Tycoon, I almost wrote it off as a clone of Game Dev Story- after playing it, I’m very glad that I didn’t. I suppose it’d be like writing off Ms. Pacman as a clone of the original game, rather than an improvement and refinement and indeed, Game Dev Tycoon definitely makes some wonderful improvements on the formula of it’s predecessor- in fact, it did some things that impressed me a lot- here are three things that other games can learn from Game Dev Tycoon. 1. Morality Systems with Long-Term... PlayIt 2013 – Hungary’s Gaming Convention

PlayIt 2013 – Hungary’s Gaming Convention

In Hungary, a little country in the middle of Europe, there’s an awesome game show twice in a year. Gamers from the whole  country come together in the capital city (Budapest) to meet friends, try new titles, and buy games for about half of the original price. The show is getting bigger and bigger, and more and more popular.  I enjoy every show more than the previous one,  and people seem to share this opinion. Let’s see how I spent that day. I got up at 7 a.m. since my friend was about to pick me up at 8 a.m. ... Read On

First Impressions: Spacechem

First Impressions: Spacechem

The latest sale from Bundle Stars is quite wonderful; it features Sword of the Stars II, Project Freedom, Weird Worlds: Return to Infinite Space, Really Big Sky, Planets Under Attack, Datajammers: Flash Forward, Ion Assault, and, as you may have guessed, Spacechem. At the time of my writing this, it’s on sale for $2.66, a deal that really oughtn’t be passed up- money from sales of the bundle go to the charity Special Effect, and frankly, these are some really great games. So, what’s Spacechem like? It’s a game that I’d heard of and known about for a while, but, to be honest, had no idea about. Curious,... Read On

Interview with Lead Developer Vladimir at Life is Feudal

Interview with Lead Developer Vladimir at Life is Feudal

Life is Feudal is a game based around the concept of reality. It is not the conventional MMORPG whereby scantily-clad characters frolic in a cartoon world without a care in the world. No: LiF is a brutally realistic game. It is set in a fictitious continent where land and resources are as important as in real life. For example, if you want to build a hut you need land, resources and a skill base in architecture. The building requires maintenance, and more importantly protection from other players and tribes. There are no levels, no monsters and to a certain... Read On

The Oculus Rift and Gaming’s Future: Inside the Boston Virtual Reality Meetup

The Oculus Rift and Gaming’s Future: Inside the Boston Virtual Reality Meetup

Early one November morning, I crawled from my bed at an unearthly hour, got dressed, and began my hours-long trek from the comfort of my Connecticut home to the rather friendly streets of Boston. I was on my way to the Boston Virtual Reality Meetup, where I’d experience the Oculus Rift for the first time, get my hands on upcoming HD prototype, and check out some of the latest indie games coming to the Rift. For the most part, my journey went well- after a train ride through scenic New England (during which the theme from The Raven wouldn’t... Read On

In case you’ve never heard of it, the New York Comic Con is, quite possibly, the largest gathering of geeks on the east coast of the United States of America. Countless thousands flock to the Jacob Javits center each year dressed as heroes and villains, plucky shonen protagonists and their moody foils, video game characters, all manner of fictional beings both common and obscure. We at Blackman ‘N Robin couldn’t pass up the great opportunity to capture some cosplayers, play some cool games and see the latest in pop culture. Here are some of our favorite pictures- if you’d... Arcen Games Announces Bionic Dues, Out October 8, 2013

Arcen Games Announces Bionic Dues, Out October 8, 2013

As of late, I’ve been enjoying Skyward Collapse, Arcen’s god game- I couldn’t help but get excited when I heard that I’d be heading for a dramatic change of scenery in their next game, Bionic Dues. Here’s the trailer and official info- it looks really awesome. Robot rebellions should be quelled by the best of the best.  When the best of the best are killed… it’s up to you.  Subdue the uprising in time, or your corporate overlords nuke the city. Bionic Dues is a tactical, turn-based roguelite with mech customization. Guide multiple classes of Exos through a variety of... Read On

Indie Devs Stuck in Greenlight Limbo Hold “Not On Steam” Sale

Indie Devs Stuck in Greenlight Limbo Hold “Not On Steam” Sale

As of late, I’ve become a fan of Race the Sun- it’s a gorgeous game that plays well, and I was kind of shocked to see that it hadn’t yet been Greenlit in Steam’s latest batch of games. This is because Race the Sun had been on Greenlight for over a year- in spite of being an excellent game, it hasn’t received enough attention to get Greenlit quite yet. While Greenlight’s a great service, it has some issues, and Race the Sun dev Aaron San Filippo recognized this and created Not On Steam. It’s a week long sale that... Read On
